Bart Lang, Sinclair Young and the LangSport team secured their first class win of the season on the Plains rally on Saturday. Battling all day with M-Sport high-flyer and experienced rally driver Andrew Wheatley, as well as last years Rally First champion Dominic Hodge, Bart and Sinclair went on a huge charge in the afternoon to overturn a deficit of five seconds at lunchtime service to win the class. Their times left them 64th overall, impressive considering their seeding of 105th and some of the cars they managed to mix with in their 1.4 Micra with a standard engine and gearbox.
Bart had this to say about the win: “I am completely over the moon about this result. On only my second rally after three years away due to budget, to be back setting the pace is a dream come true. Sinclair and the team worked impressively and I owe a huge amount to them all. Andrew set a scorching pace today and Dominic (last years champion) was going well too, and to come out on top in such a strong and experienced class of 12 I think proves our potential. Especially on my second rally back after such a long time away!”
“Hyundai Genpower putting up this impact wrench is an excellent initiative and a prize we are very grateful for. We’re an all-student rally team and budget is seriously tight, so high quality and reliable tools are a treat that we rarely get to have.
This is small, light an extremely powerful and so it will be ideal for putting in the car to enable fast tyre changes if we get a puncture mid-rally! What an idea to support the championship with a prize that is practical and useful to any team.”
Bart will be back out in a month on the Carlisle stages to try and keep the championship lead in Rally First. Anyone who wants updates on his progress should visit facebook.com/BartLangRallying. Bart is also looking desperately for support and sponsorship deals to enable him to continue his championship bid this year.
